There are three possibilities for the type of the document's effective date:

Varies	The document has multiple effective dates (hey, don't laugh, we've seen that).
Not Defined	You can't find anything anywhere in the document (referring to the table for where to find effective dates).
Date	An actual single date, picked from a calendar widget.
